Chapter 10

According to Miss Maudey, mockingbirds are special and important.  She says that it's a sin to kill them because of what they do for humans.  The songs that they hum bring joy to people.  Soon me and Jem are going to go out to play with our air rifles.  We better be sure not to hit any mockingbirds with them.

While Jem and I went out to hit cans with our rifles, Jem noticed the bus driver's dog walking.  He looked funny, like he was sick.  He was walking very slow and with a slight twitch.  Jem immediately ran back to tell Calpurnia.  Once she saw the dog she called the police and said that there was a rabid dog out.  Atticus and a police officer decided they needed to take action when it started getting closer.  The officer knew that if he missed his shot the bullet would go straight into the Radley house.  He turned to my father and handed him the gun.  This seemed strange cause Atticus doesn't hunt.  Atticus aimed and made a perfect shot.  Turns out he used to be the best hunter in Maycomb County.  If that dog never got it maybe we wouldn't know how talented Jem actually was.

Chapter 8

Something terrible happened in Maycomb, Miss Maudey's house caught on fire.  Miss Maudey lives and the neighborhood and we were never that close until this summer. Ever since Jem and Dill got close I've been feeling left out. So whenever they would go off and play together I would go and chat with her. When her house caught on fire everyone in the town went to help get her stuff out before it got destroyed.  They could not save the house though.  Miss Maudey was oddly okay about the situation. She was looking on the bright side, she was happy she will get to be outside more often.

Sometime during the fire I found myself starring at the flames, looking at the chaos they have caused. Then I felt a warmth, but not from the fire. Someone had put a blanket on my back, but when I turned no one was there. I asked Atticus if he had been the one to put the blanket on me. He said that he was not, but that it was Boo Radley.

Chapter 6

A couple of nights ago Jem and his friend Dill decided they were going to go over to the Radley's backyard. They're goal was to get a sneak of what it looked like in the house. I really didn't want to go but I did anyway. It was probably one of the scariest experiences of my life. After being there for a couple of minutes I started to get a bad feeling. I turned around to see a shadow, the shadow of one of a Radley.

After seeing the shadow of one of the Radley's we bolted out of there. We began running for a fence and had to run through a patch of the Radley's cotton. That's when we heard it, the loud shot from a shotgun. Mr. Radley fired at us, just missing Jem. We ran even faster climbing under the fence to get to a safe area. I don't think Mr. Radley knew it was us children, after all it was dark. But then again, maybe he did know and wanted to give us a good scare.
Chapter 4

This is the knot-hole in the tree near the Radley's house.  My brother Jem and I have found some pretty interesting things in there.  We've found pennies, trinkets, and lots more.  We think they're Boo's.  Jem loves the hole in the tree, he finds it so fascinating that Boo puts all this stuff in the hole.

"The Boo Radley Game" is a game that me, my brother, and some of the other kids in the neighborhood play.  It's a game where we all pretend to be members of the Radley family.  Atticus doesn't like it at all. He says it's rude and disrespectful.  He said I should try walking in other people's shoes before I judge them.  We're not trying to be mean, it's just a game.
Chapter 1

Maycomb, Alabama is my home town.  It's a good town, good people and places.  Recently it's been tough for some people though.  My dad, Atticus Finch, said it has something to do with jobs. He always says "Scout, don't go prying into business that isn't your's."

This is the Radley's house. Pretty eerie huh? The family, the Radley's live here, but they never really come out.  Occasionally you'll see Mrs. Radley come out and water her plants.  Boo Radley has never come out.  There are rumors that he only comes out at night, like a vampire or something. One lady told me she woke up in the middle of the night to find him starring at her through her window. How weird is that? Most kids will try to show off and go on the law, but not me.  Quite honestly, it freaks me out.
